Currently, the Hillsboro Police Department does not employ a dedicated detective to handle investigations.  Instead, investigations are handled from start to finish by the initiating officer, from the original call for service through to the application for criminal charges with the Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Officers are trained in all parts of a criminal investigation, and are equipped to gather witness and victim statements, process crime scenes, and interview suspects.
