Chief’s Welcome

From the Desk of Darrick T. Curtis, Chief of Police

Hello, and on behalf of the men and women of the Hillsboro Police Department, welcome to our site.

I was born and raised in Hillsboro, and am proud to be part of this incredible community.  I believe that Hillsboro is a great example of small-town America—the types of towns that seem harder and harder to find, even as people seem to seek them out more and more frequently for their values and pace.  I am constantly thankful for the opportunity to serve the community that means so much to me.

After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 2009, I attended the University of Missouri—St. Louis where I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice and a minor in Public Administration.  I then attended the Jefferson College Law Enforcement Academy in Imperial, MO to obtain my Missouri Class A POST license.

During my time with Hillsboro PD, I have served as a road patrol officer, school resource officer, and investigator.  I was promoted to the position of Assistant Chief of Police in April 2020, and appointed Chief of Police in July 2024.

Today, I am proud of the progress our department has made and I’m excited for its future.  We have made considerable investments in technology, improvements to the building, updated vehicles, and officer training.  Hillsboro officers today are better equipped and better trained than ever before.  We continue to grow and adapt to changes in police work and strive to give the best service possible to the citizens of Hillsboro.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to my office or contact me at d.curtis@hillsboromo.org.

Thank you,

Col. Darrick Curtis
